Amandine : Solace in Sore Hands (S,2007)***°
While I have wondered how a full release of the band would be conceived, this worked pretty well. Singer Olof Gidlöf’s has a specific singing, and voice, with a kind of breathy pain, comparable in some way to Mark Hollis from Talk Talk but more pushing his emotions. His voice creates already a slightly sad mood but with energy, for me it is harder to focus on the songs. Some Swedish literature was the inspiration (Sara Lidman, Torgny Lindgren, Lotta Lotass), the theme is like a harvest kind of redemption, and a next step in the emotion process after latest mini-CD. The rock band succeeds very well to push the music, with emotionality, in various directions and with different wall-effect of sound like tensions, closely accompanying the songs. Very enjoyable.
