Sensitive singer/Songwriters presents :
Johanna Kunin

CD(R) (2006)
private  Johanna Kunin : Clouds Electric (US,2006)****'

This is a great collection of beautifully arranged (and with a clarifying subtle complexity!), captivating songs with interesting, intelligent texts, and a certain inner and structural strength. She accompanies herself on piano, as with another layer of inspiration, in a not too obvious slightly romantic-melodic fashion. “The Butterfly” is a piano composition from Edvard Grieg, a composition which I thought at first was her own kind of late 19th century inspiration because it fits well with her own inspirations on piano. The arrangements are on the same level as items from Sufjan Stevens and also Laura Veirs with whom she worked before and where there are some similaritiess although Johanna shows different varieties, not only thanks to so many great contributors. Other musicians were Matt Chamberlain, Eyvind Kang (I think for the orchestrations), Tucker Martine, (who was also producer, like he was on Laura Veirs albums), Karl Blav, Steve Moore, Keith Lowe, Lori Goldstone, Mac Martine.

The album has all the qualities to get an official release on a bigger or suitable label (Virgin,..). Recommended !
