Collectif Effervescence   My Name Is Nobody :
At The Wolf Pit (F,2008)****

A good singer-songwriter for compiling an album better should have is a talent to assemble a whole series of realisations in the concept of life, under the form of expressions that are able to increase that consciousness with a strength of emotion and with an accompaniment that increase the effect in that way so that the songs work as a thought meditation like a re-experiencing of those moments of realisations. Good songs that touch the heart do this with voice, song, emotion and thought at once. Singer-songwriter Vincent Dupas has all this talent to do so, with a few moments that catch this easier and others that demand deeper listen and attention, but all the elements are there. The accompaniment just seems rather simple, with fingerpickings and voice, but there are very subtle additional softer pickings or some strums or some subtle dual vocal overdubs: never more than is really needed. On the interpretation of the Scottish “Winds are blowing” his voice is from the poor man, inflicting strongly with its trembling voice, not sounding too far as an effect from the strongest C.O.B. expressions, even when this is in a more songwriting context. Also the second song has a comparable effect like this. The compilation of songs put the realisations in focus in a personal, social and socializing context. It is the hard working man against the irresponsible in a relationship, or towards making money (as if the devil took part into the national pride to gain as much money as possible without looking at the costs or effects). It is for instance seeing the father or old man with his pride losing all his sons after making preferences and some circumstances. An album that can grow deeper with several listens. Well done.

Collectif Effervescence   My Name Is Nobody :
I hope you're well, I am and I send you my fingers (F,2006)****

On the first track, one of my favourites, the colour of the voice reminded me a bit of Robert Wyatt, not sure if the reference is exploited just slightly as an influence too. We could add much more Bonnie “Prince” Billie as a reference into the, darkening emotional tension of the songwriting. Not all songs were immediately clear from first listen (I didn’t have the lyrics), but I assume are mostly about love and friendships. They are either accompanied a bit more sparsely, by guitars, piano and a bit of vocal harmonies, and elsewhere by stronger emphasized band arrangements. Contrary to the dark and overdone dark-cynically front cover, the songs often here and there sound lighter and hopeful against a more poisonous darkness.

-This drawing on the cover, still feels like a cynical caricature, an exaggerated expression of disappointment, of someone sending his fingers, possibly referring to Van Gogh who people remember as having sent his ear to the girl he loved, when he felt abused in the situation. -Here I must say that I am sure that this story about Van Gogh was always misinterpreted. I guess he send only his ear-lob, which is a more sexually strong point of the body, a part which was possibly liked so much by the girl, where she had said some things about it, as if this dealt with love and caring, so when he felt betrayed, he decided to send the real "detail" she loved dearly over, a story which makes very much sense, while someone sending his ear sounds much more crazy, just like sending fingers (and this by someone who plays guitar) as much more sick, self-destructive and narcistic, although it is probably just a shocking image, in a 21st century fashion of uncontrolled image-exaggeration, de-attached from the reality behind it, so in this case just like a symbolic wish for a real goodbye of any cooperation, as a reference to the "Palace" scene with hip exaggerations-

The name My Name Is Nobody refers to Jim Jarmuschs “Dead Man”, and is led by singer-songwriter Vincent Dupas.

Collectif EffervescenceMy Name Is Nobody & The Desert Foxes : The Mentor (F,2009)****

A couple of listens and I am convinced of the great band sound, and emotional power of the album, but I still missed checking out the lyrics which weren’t included with the promo-CD. I had the impression the roundabout of the front cover very much stood for the diverse rhythms of its rock sound expressing the wheel of life with different meeting points on its way of coming home, sharing (and being thankful for it), and departing (for contemplating situations its own).

Especially the emotional opener “Doom” struck me, triggering a memory of my own, where I met a friend being in time of need, who told me why and how she was going to end this life.*

[* I suggested to stay in my apartment for a while, but she said it was too late. I understood why and
how she was thinking about it but could not find a real way out with enough hope for change. It was
only later I found out she really left, and I had been the only one who had been informed of her
situation. And I still blame myself because I didn’t share with her that same energy of a sacrifice I had
committed just a week beforehand for someone else in a time of need. I didn’t act similarly, in such a
life consuming, energy of a life and death situation at that moment, where I might have done so. This
chance just never comes back]...

Vincent Dumas’ voice succeeds to move the listener, and also the band, influenced a bit by the new Americana styles, finds successful formulas to be with the songs and express whenever something is needed, with more electric distortion at certain points, and a good drumming section which adds a roll or click-clack sounds like refreshments, while there are also touches backing vocals arrangements (from baritone to soprano), and just a few beautiful sounds of Wurlitzer and organ, and trumpet. Another strong album.
